Description
After 1993's closure of the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo has worked with developers to redevelop the island into a mixed-use residential and commercial neighborhood.
The current master developer is Lennar Mare Island, LLC. However, much of the land is now being transferred to the Nimitz Group.

North Mare Island
Current Status: Community meetings tentatively scheduled for June 2019; land transfer from Lennar Mare Island to the Nimitz Group expected summer 2019; master plan expected after land transfer
Planned by the Nimitz Group, this portion of development is expected to see the creation of 600,000 square feet of film production facilities, "365,000 square feet for warehousing, production, administrative offices, and tasting facilities," and 100,000 square feet of office space. There is also plans for 75,000-100,000 square feet of mixed use commercial/retail and 37,000 square feet for industrial purposes.
